Kolams in Vaithikuppam

We're located quite close to land's edge in Pondicherry, in an area called Vaithikuppam. Vaithikuppam is predominantly a fishing community, with boats setting out from here almost every morning or night, except when there's a cyclone on the horizon, or during the mandatory annual fishing break. Vaithikuppam also hosts the Masi Magam festival, with devotees coming from around the Pondicherry territory and Tamil Nadu. But it's during Pongal when the streets turn their most colourful. All the small fishing homes will have a beautiful kolam (rangoli) outside, painstakingly drawn, for a week leading up to the festival, culminating in the final festive kolam on Pongal festival days. We took a walk around Vaithikuppam and photographed some of these beautiful kolams. Here are just a few of the photos we took.
